Run Programs When Infections Are Blocking Them

Viruses, Spyware, Malware, Adware and other infections will prevent you from opening and running any files in an effort to prevent their removal. All of these infections want to stay on your computer as long as possible.

1. Download the PC Tools installation file

Start by downloading the PC Tools installation file onto your infected computer by clicking the orange button below. If you cannot download the installation file directly onto your infected computer, please visit the Safe Mode with Networking page. If you cannot find your browser on the infected computer, visit the Find Your Web Browser page.

2. Open the PC Tools installation file

After you have downloaded the PC Tools installation file, go ahead and try to open it. If it starts, please continue with the installation and removal process.

3. Rename the file to ‘iexplore.exe’

If you have tried to open the installation file and it will not run then you should try another method which is to rename the installation file. Go ahead and rename the installation file to ‘iexplore.exe’. After renaming the file try to open it again. This method seems to work quite often.

4. Wont work? Boot into Safe Mode

Sometimes you will not be able to open the installation file regardless of how many times you have tried. Go ahead and boot into Safe Mode with Networking, then try to open the installation file. Visit the Safe Mode with Networking page to learn how.

5. Install PC Tools

Visit the PC Tools Installation Instruction Page for detailed instructions. Complete the installation process and let PC Tools perform a thorough scan of your infected computer. The scan will take some time, so please be patient. PC Tools scans each and every file on your computer.
