Social media sites like Twitter and Facebook are pinging with chatter about the death and everyone simply want to see the photos of the dead former leader Gaddafi but be careful inquiring with strangers on these sites who claim to have the pictures. The Malware research team at iHOW has recently been tipped off that spammer are planning to roll out campaigns featuring these “Dead Gaddafi Photos” and infecting them with malware.
Spammer will aim to prey on the curious looking to see the pictures for themselves.
Moammar Gaddafi was killed Oct. 20 2011 by revolutionary fighters in his hometown of Sirte.
If you see any links or email with links to photos of Gaddafi’s death use caution. Spammers will try and load them up with malware and look to infect as many people as possible. These spammers usually prefer to infect individuals with rogue malware applications that will appear as a legitimate antivirus program and then will turn into a very malicious program that will try to block access to files and most computer programs ultimately asking the infected user to buy the fake program.

A botnet called “TDL-4” goes after Windows based computers has been found to be compltely un-stoppable!
alled TDL-4 becuase it appears to be the 4th vesion of the original botnet but this one appears to have some serious upgrades to it. It appears that the writers of this program did not hold out, they made this one to be “indestructable”. The makers of TDL are basically trying to build an ‘indestructible’ botnet that is can resist all attacks, competitors, and anti-virus companies.
Here are some interesting interesting charectoristics of TDL4. First off, it does not like of sharing systems with other malware. It turns out, these cybercriminals, are like a lot of regular every day business executives, and do not appreciate competition. Surprizingly, the TDL4 runs and performs some anti-malware operations when it loads it self onto an infected computer, and carefully removes any other malware it may find in the computers.
It does not want any other rivals in its way. The TDL4 goons want these computers under their control and only their control — to deliver fake antivirus software, additional money making malware, and also spambots that deliver enormous amounts of spam with the push of a button.
Although TDL-4 seems to be spreading faster than a bullet train, Igor Soumenkov of Kaspersky’s internet security claim that not one computer in all of Russia has been infected as of yet. The reason is not due to Russian computer having impeccable security software. It’s because like we mentioned early this is a for-profit malware attack and these criminal and their affiliates do not appear to be getting paid for installations of TDL-4 on computers in Russia.
The early buzz on this attack is that it is “indestructible” and it could be the super bowl for malware attacks.
Microsoft has already delivered some security patches to address TDL-4 and many other holes will be closed as time goes on with this attack. It will certainly see how will be the MVP in this match as already more than 4.5 million computers world-wide appear to be infected and there is a lot of time left on the clock.
